1 Million Dollar Bond Set For Couple in Child Abuse Incident at Summit County Red Roof Inn

In a shocking incident that has shaken the Springfield Township community, two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with a child abuse case involving a one-year-old girl. The Springfield Township Police Department reported that the incident occurred late Friday night at the Red Roof Inn, prompting an urgent response from law enforcement and medical personnel.

At approximately 9:30p.m., police officers were dispatched to the hotel located at 2939 S. Arlington Rd. following a 911 call about an unresponsive child. Upon arrival, officers found the young girl lying on the hotel bed, not breathing. Immediate action was taken as officers administered CPR, successfully reviving her and restoring her pulse. However, the child displayed severe signs of trauma, including extensive bruising, and was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for critical care.

Authorities identified the girl’s father, a 37-year-old Jason Santos, and his 35-year-old girlfriend Jamilee Hunt, both from New York, as the individuals responsible for the abuse. They have been charged with multiple counts including child endangerment, obstructing official business and Santos facing felonious assault charges. The couple are currently being held at the Summit County Jail, both with a $1 million dollar bond. As investigations continue, the police have stated that further details will be released as they become available.

This incident is not an isolated case for the Red Roof Inn, which has gained notoriety for frequent police activity. Over the past four years, the Springfield Township Police Department has received more than 1,300 calls from the hotel, raising significant concerns among residents. The calls have involved a range of alarming incidents, including drug overdoses, fights, and thefts. Notably, the hotel has seen 192 calls related to medical emergencies and drug overdoses, along with 266 complaints of fights or threats.

A Local resident has voiced his frustrations regarding the ongoing issues associated with the hotel. Having lived in Springfield Township for most of his life, he described the Red Roof Inn as a “constant source of trouble.”  He expressed his dismay over the criminal activity that has plagued the establishment, stating, “We don’t need this in our community. I worked hard my whole life to move to Springfield. It’s a nice township. We like it here. We don’t want this kind of trouble.”

Springfield Township Police Chief Jack Simone has taken a proactive approach to address the persistent issues at the hotel. In response to the ongoing criminal activity, the police department is pursuing legal action against the Red Roof Inn. Summit County prosecutors have filed a nuisance lawsuit aimed at shutting down the hotel, highlighting the need for community safety. Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich emphasized the importance of addressing the rampant criminal activity, stating, “Ultimately, we just want the nuisance to stop.”

Back in April Kolkovich said the hotel’s owner and the township had reached a tentative agreement that later the Township Council also had to vote on. He also stated “They’re gonna require photo ID, credit cards for payment, over 21 to stay. They’re also going to have security cameras, 24-hour surveillance and they’re going to have a security guard working on the weekend.”

As criminal activity is still taking place at the Red Roof Inn, residents are left feeling anxious about the future. The combination of the recent child abuse incident and the ongoing criminal activity at the Red Roof Inn has ignited a sense of urgency within the community. Residents are calling for change and expressing their desire for a safer environment. As the investigation continues, the hope is that the Springfield Township community will soon see improvements that ensure the safety and well-being of its residents, especially its vulnerable children.

The unfolding events serve as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by communities in dealing with establishments that become hotbeds for crime. As the Springfield Township Police Department works diligently to address these concerns, the community stands united in its call for action and accountability.
